Our History

On Sunday, January 20, 1957, a group of fifteen people met and organized the New Testament Baptist Church. Sometime between 1960 and 1970 the name was changed to Temple Baptist Church. At that time they rented the old Duckworth building in downtown Tullahoma and called Bro. Art Jones as the first pastor.

Several years later the church was led to purchase the old Silver Dollar dance hall building. The church experienced a period of discouragement in which disbanding was considered. God's grace brought them through that however, and under the next pastor, Bro. Richard Rawls, the church experienced a period of growth. This growth forced the church to find larger facilities. The American Legion Hall was rented until the present location was purchased. Bro. Rawls saw the church through the construction of the old auditorium which is now the fellowship and surrounding class room area.

Bro. Rawls was followed by Bro. James Price who also taught at Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga. Bro. Price was followed by Bro. Lewis Batchelor. It was under Bro. Batchelor that construction of the present auditorium was begun. Before construction was complete however, Bro. Batchelor resigned and was followed by Bro. Ted Willie. In 1973 Bro. Willie was followed by Bro. Jay Roller as pastor of Temple Baptist Church. Bro. Roller resigned in February 1977. One month later, March 1977, Bro. Gary Jackson was elected as pastor. Bro. Jackson pastored until the summer of 1981. He was followed by Bro. Mike Allison who pastored Temple Baptist Church until fall of 1989. It was under Bro. Allison that our two metal educational buildings were built. In January 1990 Bro. Bill Adams began as pastor of Temple Baptist Church. In August 2007 Greg Nash became Pastor.
